Thank you for your comment on our blog, iHeartBidets.com.
Ernest,

Thank you for your comment on our blog, iHeartBidets.com.

In reply to your question, $25 a month to operate the seat sounds like an awful lot. We have done tests in the past when comparing bidet seat power usage over the course of a month and found that under normal usage, the seats only consume about 16 KWH per month without using the energy saving feature. This results in a roughly $2-$3 cost per month.

Try hooking up your bidet seat to a product like http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU to monitor the actual power consumption of the bidet seat and monitor it over the course of a month.

Also - the Blooming NB-R1060 does have a power saving feature that can be activated by pressing the "Power Saving" button located on the unit itself, not the remote. If you close the seat and lid, the button is located on top, near the back right.

Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns we can help you with.

Thank you,
Michelle

The Blooming unit appears to be well constructed, except for one thing, it could have included an energy saving feature in the form of a remote controled main switch, so that for most of the time when it is not in use it does not have to be wasting energy heating it up. We noticed our electricity bill went up by $25 for the part of the month after it was installed. And we actually tuned it off part of the time with the wall switch. I do not know if frequent on/off switching would be bad for the electronics.
Any comment from Blooming?

Ann: I just read that the new Brondell swash 1000 now has a self sanitizing function. I'm not sure the mechanism for "self sanitizing," but it appears that you need to purchase this particular model for this function in the Swash line. The less expensive models do not have this feature

How can I find a self-sanitizing nozzle? The only model seems to be a cleanoseat which is not available in the US. Other models are self-spraying but do not have any disinfectant or non-backup (i.e., used water does not flow back to nozzle) qualities. Thank you.

Hi Barbara,

The manufacturers do not recommend sitting on the lids and they aren't designed for this purpose. However, the INAX Luscence and Blooming NB-R1060 both have very strong lids. I weigh roughly 160lbs and feel comfortable enough sitting on both of these lids as they do not bend and 'give' under this much weight.
